Affiliating with H-IPL as a congregation places you in a supportive statewide network of Hoosiers of all backgrounds and faiths seeking to care for creation. It allows your congregation to receive and take advantage of the latest news, information, opportunities, and programs from H-IPL, and puts you in contact with other affiliated congregations in your vicinity or denomination. Affiliating involves:
1. Appointing a liaison person or group (such as a green team or member of the property committee) who will receive communications and promote events, programs, and resources of H-IPL. If there is a regional affiliate in the area, the liaison will ordinarily work directly with that affiliate group.
2. Engaging as desired with H-IPL’s programs for fossil fuel reduction, environmental policy, and/or environmental education, and even sharing your own stories, concerns, talents, events, and challenges with others in the H-IPL community.
3. As possible, making regular contributions to support H-IPL’s work through the congregation’s mission budget and/or creating opportunities for congregational members to give individually.
If you would like become one of our affiliate congregations, please sign up by filling out this form or emailing it to our Program Director, Amy Barnes. You will need basic congregational information, the name and contact information of a congregational leader who has approved affiliation with H-IPL, and names and contact info for 1-3 members who will serve as liaisons.
You can find guidance for starting your congregational creation care ministry and energy conservation team in our free, downloadable Using Energy Prudently guide, which contains links integrated to the website.
Using Energy Prudently Congregations
Congregations wishing to enter a deeper relationship with Hoosier IPL, including significant efforts at energy reduction in worship buildings and homes, may consider embarking on our full Using Energy Prudently program described in the guide, and even becoming a Using Energy Prudently Congregation. We provide help in tracking utilities, finding and fixing building inefficiencies, using energy prudently at home, programs for tree planting and earth-friendly landscaping, renewable energy, and solar grants.
