September 23, Indianapolis- While Pope Francis visited the White House and dignitaries in Washington D.C., people of faith gathered in downtown Indianapolis for a prayer procession demanding that two of Indiana's most important politicians take the pope's lead and take serious action on climate change.
Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly and Indiana Governor Mike Pence have publicly stated disdain for the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Power Plan. Many environmental leaders, scientists, economists, and faith leaders, including Pope Francis, believe that Clean Power Plan is a strong step in the right direction in dramatically reducing carbon emissions.
The prayer procession started at Senator Donnelly's downtown office, with a walk through Monument Circle, and concluded on the steps of the Indiana State House. Both Donnelly and Pence received a copy of Pope Francis' Laudato Si' (Praise Be To You: On Care for Our Common Home), a copy of the prayers that were read during the procession, and a petition signed by over 400 Hoosiers demanding their support for the Clean Power Plan.
Please sign and get others to sign the petition demanding that Gov. Pence and Senator Donnelly support of the Clean Power Plan.
