Join us and our friends for a winter solstice and holiday-themed Protest in front of Indianapolis Power & Light (IPL) Headquarters because 2017 was a bad year for clean energy in Indiana and Indianapolis Power & Light is on the Clean Energy naughty list:
SB 309/Anti-Solar Legislation: IPL started off 2017 by successfully getting Indiana legislators to pass anti-net metering, anti roof-top solar legislation that hurts congregations, people, small businesses, schools, and the planet. An Indianapolis Star article later highlighted that that "Indiana politicians got thousands in gifts while pushing solar policy," described how Indianapolis Power & Light and other Indiana utility's rigged the statehouse to pass SEA 309, this unfair and immoral legislation.
Petersburg Coal Plant: Indiana still has five out of the USA's 21 toxic super polluters, including IPL's Petersburg Coal Plant. IPL has no plans to retire its super polluter but wants Indianapolis residents to continue to spend millions of dollars bailing out the uneconomic coal plant.
Raising Prices on Customers: Indiana utilities, including Indianapolis Power & Light, are trying to raise customers' bills, which is expected to have a huge impact on Indiana's families and senior citizens.
Greenwashing, the disinformation disseminated by an organization so as to present an environmentally responsible public image: Far too many times in 2017 did IPL market itself as a green corporation, but between Petersburg, SB 309, coal ash, and having no plan to move towards 100% clean energy, the people of Indianapolis know the truth!
