Leaves of Faith

Hoosier Interfaith Power & Light has partnered with the Indiana Urban Forest Council to offer congregations a program called the Leaves of Faith Canopy Project. Leaves of Faith provides congregations up to three native trees per year, along with guidance for placement, planting, and care. 

IUFC provides to each partner congregation:
• Guidance and site plan review • Help with species selection and placement • Team building • 1-3 high quality landscape-grade trees (over 6’ tall) each fall for three years • Plans for your public tree planting • Press release & publicity • Recognition of your stewardship • Speaker and demo for planting & mulching • Connection to local trained Tree Stewards that can monitor your trees • A bucket with instructions for tree care

Hoosier IPL provides:
• Publicity for the program and for participating congregations • Connections among participating congregations • Complementary ways to promote creation care and energy efficiency in your congregation • Promotion and celebration of your efforts

Partnering congregations provide:
• 3 contacts (including groundskeeper) for facility • Membership dues to the program ($100/year) • Commitment to stay in for 3 years (the length of time trees need to establish) • Pictures from planting • Hands that will work and care for trees • Water and care for 3 years • An estimate of the hours your group contributed
