Are you looking for ways to save energy and money in your congregation’s building? This luncheon workshop focuses on aspects of heating and cooling, as well as ideas for engaging your congregation in energy conservation. There will be a brief overview of strategies used by Hoosier congregations to cut their energy use by 25% and more.
Workshop participants will learn how to deeply reduce energy costs by:
- managing the thermostat, and
- tending to the building envelope.
Participants will receive the Using Energy Prudently toolkit of resources produced by Hoosier Interfaith Power and Light (H-IPL), co-authored by Molly O’Donnell, Madeline Hirschland and Ray Wilson and the book Chasing Sacred Air: A Common Sense Guide to Energy Efficiency in Sacred Buildings by Monroe Fritz.
This lucheon program is led by Hirschland and Wilson of H-IPL’s Seventh Day Initiative, which helped Hoosier congregations reduce their energy use by 25%-40%. Hirschland and Wilson have co-facilitated 13 energy workshops across Indiana to equip congregations to deeply reduce their energy use. Madeline Hirschland served twice as president of her congregations, which earned first place in a national energy conservation competition. She initiated and directs the Seventh Day Initiative. Ray Wilson is president of Ray Wilson & Associates, consultants in operational improvement and organizational development. He is a veteran of 28 years as an engineer and executive manager in business.
The cost $10 fee includes lunch, conversation and the book Chasing Sacred Air, as well as the Using Energy Prudently toolkit.
