Task of the Month
Do you feel overwhelmed by the number of things that need to be done around your house to save energy? Confused about what to do first? Uncertain how to go about these tasks? Discouraged about what it all might cost you? The Task of the Month Program was developed with these concerns in mind.
Instead of trying to do everything at once, the Task of the Month encourages people to focus on one particular thing at a time. If you are participating as part of a congregation committed to this program, then you have a community of people around you working on the same task. Ask for help! Or offer it, if you are able.
How the Program Works?
Each month, there is one task for participants to complete. The Task of the Month Toolkit contains information sheets on each task to help people get the job done. Congregations keep track of who is participating, and as people complete tasks they check them off on the form provided. Congregational “green teams” or other leaders may organize raffles, information events, work parties, or other activities that help members get the jobs done.
What’s in the Toolkit?
The Task of the Month Toolkit, made from a recycled pizza box and other reclaimed materials, contains all the essential components of the program: instructions, sign-up sheets, a poster for each month, information sheets explaining each task, brochures about the program, and additional resources. All printed materials are also provided on CD for those who wish to send the information electronically, or customize the materials for their congregations.

FAQs
What if I’ve already completed some or all of the tasks?
There are still several ways you can participate! Each month’s Information Sheet includes suggestions for additional tasks for those who wish to do more and save more. Another possibility is that you could assist others in getting the jobs done in their homes.
How were the tasks chosen?
These tasks were selected from lists of energy-saving actions recommended by the Rocky Mountain Institute, based on their effectiveness (cost, effort and expertise required, and potential for significant energy savings). Please note that the savings listed for each task are estimates based on national averages; individual household results will vary.
How well has this program worked in other congregations?
The success of this program depends upon the level of engagement among congregational members. Every effort has been made to provide materials and information in order to minimize the work required of congregational organizers, yet some planning, communication, and follow up is essential! Click here to see examples of things some congregations have done to introduce and sustain the program. Contact us for more ideas, or to arrange a workshop for green teams in your community.
