Tri-State Creation Care Conference

Hopes for a New Era

3rd Annual Tri-State Creation Care Conference

Saturday, January 20, 2018, 9 am to noon (registration begins at 8:30 am)

at Aldersgate United Methodist Church

5130 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, IN

From an earth care perspective, we live in a crucial time. The times beg us to change our ways and heal our planet, yet, the enormity of the task and the forces pushing us away from solutions can leave us with feelings of futility.  This year’s Creation Care Conference will focus on our spiritual task to remain steadfast in a hope that empowers and transforms.  To address the reality of our current situation and to offer a message of hope, the conference will host the following presenters:

Dr. Ben Brabson

Dr. Ben Brabson is a Professor Emeritus of Physics at Indiana University.  Dr. Brabson’s research into earth temperature rise has made him into one of the leading authorities on the effects of a warming planet on water availability, agriculture and ecosystems.  A frequent speaker on this topic combined with a lifetime of teaching has given him the ability to turn a difficult topic into an inspiring message.  Dr. Brabson has published more than 100 articles on high energy physics and climate change and has held several research positions around the world.

Hope from Our Faith Traditions

A panel of faith leaders will each offer us a brief spiritual reflection on the power of hope from their respective faith tradition.

Breakout Sessions:

Solar Energy for Home and Church

Homeowners and representatives from faith communities who have installed solar systems will share their experiences and knowledge.  Solar energy now more than ever is reachable for many.

Creation Care Activism: the Wildflower Way

How do we engage our communities of faith in environmental concerns?  In this workshop, we will share the Tristate CC approach and how we can bring the creation care movement back to our faith community.

Backyard Habitat

Grass lawns may be beautiful to us but to wildlife and to the health of the planet they are bad news.  Grass offers little habitat or food to wildlife and the chemicals we apply to our lawns often ends up in our lakes and streams.  In this workshop, we will learn how planting native species will transform our backyards into an earth friendly space.

Bee Aware”: Protecting Bees and Other Pollinators from Pesticide Poisoning

Larry Caplan, Purdue Extension Agent, will teach on how we can lessen the harm we are inflicting on our pollinators.

Vendors and Displays:  Present also will be a variety of vendors associated with earth care and displays of affiliate organizations promoting earth care that reflect their own unique mission.
